Boe-Wiegaard returns to NCAA championship match

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Bates College senior Will Boe-Wiegaard is returning to the championship match of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Singles Championships for the second straight year.
The four-time All-America defeated MIT senior Evan Tindell (Boca Raton, Fla.) in the quarterfinals on Sunday, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, avenging a defeat to Tindell earlier during the regular season.
Boe-Wiegaard, unseeded in the tournament, advanced to the semifinal round, where he beat Middlebury College senior Nate Edmunds (Birmingham, Mich.) 6-3, 6-2.
Later in the day, Boe-Wiegaard and senior teammate Tristan Beach (Grand Rapids, Mich.) played in the quarterfinal round of the Doubles Championship, bowing to Matt Seeberger and Shane Templeman of UC-Santa Clara by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
Boe-Wiegaard (25-6) will face Middlebury senior Brian Waldron (Rye, N.Y.), the tournament’s No. 2 seed, in the championship match on Monday at 9 a.m. Waldron defeated Boe-Wiegaard in the regular season on March 12 in a prolonged battle, 4-6, 7-6(9), 6-4.
