Moore fights her way to All-America finish in steeplechase

LISLE, Ill. — Bates College junior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) suffered a major stumble, but recovered enough to finish eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning her first All-America honors in the process.

Moore was tripped up while passing over a water barrier and fell flat on her face, losing precious seconds. She climbed out of the water and eventually caught several runners from behind. Moore also tripped and nearly fell again rounding into the final stretch, yet still registered a personal-best 10:49.46, shaving 0.78 seconds off of her own school record in the event.

“That was one of the most incredible, toughest races I’ve ever seen someone run,” said Bates coach Jay Hartshorn.

Moore becomes the eighth Bates woman to earn All-America honors in outdoor track and field.
