Colony, Wentworth named to District 1 All-Academic teams

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College track and field athletes Joel Colony and Ashley Wentworth have been elected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic First Team All-District track & field/cross country teams, in the College Division.

Both student-athletes are now eligible to be voted to the Academic All-America track & field/cross country teams.

Colony (Harrisville, N.H.) graduated from Bates on Sunday cum laude with a 3.72 grade point average, having majored in religion and minored in Chinese. He is a five-time Division III national qualifier, including this spring in the 400-meter dash, and has been honored with selection to the All-NESCAC, All-ECAC, Division III All-New England, and All-New England Open Division teams numerous times. Colony is eyeing involvement in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

Wentworth (North Andover, Mass.), a sociology major, graduated summa cum laude on Sunday with a 3.96 grade point average. She is the recipient of the Milton L. Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Award. Wentworth earned All-NESCAC honors this year in the 400 meters (1:00.26) and 4×400 relay (4:00.50). She is Bates’ record holder in the indoor 600 (1:38.58), indoor 800 (2:15.22), indoor 4×400 relay (4:00.19) and outdoor 4×400 relay (4:00.50). Wentworth will attend medical school in the fall.
