Godsey named to Division III silver anniversary team in track and field

Keelin Godsey ’06 competes at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the hammer throw on Friday.

Recent Bates College graduate and NCAA champion Keelin Godsey has been named to the Division III Silver Anniversary Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The USTFCCCA commemorated the 25th anniversary of women competing in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by naming the silver anniversary team, comprised of the top performers in each event over the past 25 years. Godsey was selected in the hammer throw.

Godsey defended his own national championship and broke his own meet record in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Championships in May, with a top throw of 206 feet and 5 inches. A 16-time All-America selection, Godsey also finished second in the shot put and fourth in the discus throw at the meet.

Godsey is the only athlete from the New England Small College Athletic Conference to be named to the silver anniversary team.

Vince Brown of Christopher Newport University was named the outstanding coach of the past 25 years. Wisconsin-Oshkosh was named the outstanding women’s program.

Godsey competes in the hammer throw at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Indianapolis, along with the elite track and field athletes in the nation. The women’s hammer throw competition is scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m.

Fellow Bates graduate Liz Wanless ’04 will also compete at the USATF Championships in the shot put, which is scheduled for Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
