LEWISTON, Maine — Matt Dence, Chris Kempton and Josh Hedrick have been hired as new assistant football coaches at Bates College, head coach Mark Harriman announced.
Dence will serve as the Bobcats’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, as well as strength coach. Dence was previously an assistant coach at Yale University, Amherst College, Springfield College and King’s College.
Kempton will coach the defensive backs and will serve as special teams coordinator. Kempton was previously an assistant coach at Colby College and the head coach at Winthrop High School in Maine.
Hedrick, a recent graduate of Colgate University, where he played tight end, will coach the Bobcats’ wide receivers.
The hires complete Bates’ 2006 coaching staff, which includes Harriman (Head Coach; Defensive Coordinator; linebackers), Craig Vandersea (running backs), C.J. DeMatteo (Recruiting Coordinator, offensive line), Skip Capone (defensive line) and Joe DeMatteo (outside linebackers).
Bates plays a scrimmage at Colby on Sept. 16, then begins the regular season with a game at Amherst College on Sept. 23.
