Women’s soccer team rated 12th in inaugural national poll

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College women’s soccer team is ranked 12th in the first Top 25 poll conducted by D3Kicks.com, a new website dedicated to Division III soccer.

The Bobcats, defending NESCAC champions, are one of three NESCAC teams in the Top 25, along with Tufts (sixth) and Williams (25th).

Bates returns nine out of 11 starters from the 2005 team that won its first NESCAC championship and advanced into the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships. The Bobcats will be co-captained by seniors Meg Coffin and Becky Macdonald. Coffin, a defender, was named second team All-America last season, and was also All-New England, along with returning teammates Kim Alexander and Molly Wagner.

Jim Murphy ’69 enters his 13th season leading the women’s soccer team with a career record of 121-62-10.

Bates starts the 2006 season with a game at Husson College on Sept. 12. The Bobcats’ first home game will be Sept. 23 against Connecticut College.
