Volleyball team goes 4-0 at Cobblestone Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — The Bates College volleyball team won six out of seven sets on Saturday in defeating Lasell and Mount Ida during the second day of the Cobblestone Invitational at Plymouth State University, moving to 4-0 for the first time since 1994.
Bates downed Lasell (4-5) in straight sets, 31-29, 30-19, 36-34, in their first match of the day, as first-year OH Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) pounded 11 kills to go with 14 digs. Senior setter Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 29 assists, 12 digs and three aces in the match.
Leberman and Graeff were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
Also contributing to the Lasell win were first-year Elise Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill.) with nine kills and seven digs, junior Jenn Linton (Redding, Conn.) with nine kills and seven aces, first-year Brit Johnston (Winter Park, Colo.) with 15 digs, and first-year Kira Kramlich (San Francisco, Calif.) with eight digs.
Bates nipped Mount Ida (2-4) in the final match of the tournament, 30-23, 28-30, 30-27, 31-29, as Graeff tallied 38 assists and 12 digs while Leberman came up with 16 kills and 11 digs. Edmonson added 11 kills and 18 digs, Johnston had 17 digs, sophomore Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) had five kills and four blocks, and first-year Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) had 10 kills.
Bates hosts defending NESCAC champion Colby in a non-league match on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
