First-year player leads Bates golf team at Bowdoin Invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine — First-year player Kirk Schuler led the way with a two-day score of 155 as the Bates College golf team opened the 2006 season by placing 11th out of 15 teams at the Bowdoin Invitational this weekend at Brunswick Country Club.
Schuler (Jackson, N.H.) shot a 76 on Saturday and followed with a 79 on Sunday, just ahead of All-NESCAC junior teammate Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.), who carded a 76 and an 81.
The Bobcats finished with a two-day team total of 665, ahead of Wesleyan (673), Southern Maine (674), MIT (705) and Colby (713). Hamilton College (604) edged Husson (606) for the team title.
Senior Chris Foster (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was Bates’ third-lowest scorer, carding a 94 and an 81 for a two-day total of 175. Fourth was sophomore Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.), with an 84 and 94 (178).
Bates next plays at the State of Maine Tournament Sept. 15-16 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, Maine.
