Bates women finish second at Bates Cross Country Invite

CUMBERLAND, Maine — Bates senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) led the Bobcats to second place out of three teams at the Bates College Cross Country Invitational, on the 5K women’s course at Twin Brook Recreation Area. Moore came in third overall in 19:47.
MIT won the women’s race with 25 points, followed by the host Bobcats (49) and third-place Keene State (61).
Keene State’s Jennifer Adams won the women’s 5K race comfortably at 19:00, 30 seconds ahead of second-place Maria Monks of MIT. A trio of Engineers — Jacqui Wentz (19:57), Jennifer Doyle (20:01) and Elizabeth Finn (20:06) — followed Moore.
Junior Aviva Goldstein (Needham, Mass.) was Bates’ second finisher, placing seventh overall in 20:10. She was followed by junior Molly Balentine (Hampden, Maine) and first-year Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) in 12th and 13th, respectively, both at 20:43. Senior Emily Williams (Harvard, Mass.) was right behind in 14th place at 20:44.
Rounding out Bates’ top seven were first-year Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) at 17th in 21:08 and first-year Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.) in 19th at 21:30.
Bates next competes at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23.
