AMHERST, Mass. — The Bates College men’s soccer team relinquished a 1-0 lead and lost to NESCAC rival Amherst College Saturday, 3-1, in a NESCAC matchup.
Jeffs senior co-captain Mike Wohl (Northampton, Mass.) netted the game-winner in the 58th minute.
The Bobcats (0-2, 0-2 NESCAC) jumped out to an early lead in the 25th minute when sophomore forward Greg Nelson (Greenwich, Conn.) netted an unassisted blast from 25 yards out, past Amherst goalie Jeff Grover (Framingham, Mass.).
The Jeffs rallied back to score a pair of goals only 2 minutes and 36 seconds apart just 10 minutes into the second half. Senior co-captain Rob Madden (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored the equalizer, while Wohl was fed by Jake Duker (Newton, Mass.) through the Bates defense to score on a breakaway shortly after.
The Jeffs tacked on an insurance goal in the 66th minute when first-year midfielder Matt Lewis (Wayland, Mass.) found the net for his first collegiate points of junior winger Ryan O’Donnell’s second assist of the day.
Grover made a save in net for the Jeffs, while his counterpart Aaron Schleicher (Londonberry, N.H.) had three saves for Bates.
