Volleyball team drops two at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Playing at the MIT Invitational on Friday, the Bates College volleyball team lost in straight games to Wellesley College and was edged in five games by Muhlenberg College. The Bobcats (6-5) continue at the tournament on Saturday with matches against Bridgewater State and Bowdoin.
Wellesley, seeded fourth overall in the tournament, beat Bates by scores of 30-16, 30-21 and 30-22. First-year Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) came up with six kills for the Bobcats in defeat.
Bates lost a heartbreaker in the second match of the night, winning the second and fourth games but coming up short in the tiebreaking fifth set by a 15-13 score. The final score was 30-22, 25-30, 28-30, 16-30 and 15-13 in Muhlenberg’s favor.
Senior Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 42 assists in the match for Bates. Sophomore Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) had 11 kills and a team-high six blocks. Leberman had a team-high 15 kills with three blocks, while first-year Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) added 11 kills.
