GRAFTON, Mass. — Bates College senior captain Steve Monsulick (Kents Hill, Maine) finished first overall at the Tufts Jumbo Cross Country Invitational, with the third fastest time in school history at the Tufts Farm Course.
Monsulick covered the 8K course in a blazing 26:11, 16 seconds ahead of second-place Justin Chung, a senior from Tufts. Only Dan Johnson ’06 and Justin Easter ’03 have done it faster in a Bobcat uniform.
With 51 points, Bates finished third as a team behind nationally ranked Tufts (35) and Amherst (36).
Behind Monsulick were junior captain Matt Dunlap (Farmington, Maine) in seventh at 27:05, first-year Dylan McGuffin (Northfield, N.H.) in 12th at 27:20, junior Andrew Percy (Woodbridge, Conn.) in 15th at 27:31, first-year Conor Welch (Newburyport, Mass.) in 16th at 27:32, junior Harrison Little (Hanover, N.H.) in 18th at 27:35 and sophomore C.J. Murray (North Andover, Mass.) in 21st at 27:55.
Monsulick bounced back nicely from last week at the Bates Invitational, where he cramped up and dropped back to ninth place.
“Overall, we saw a lot of improvements from last week (at the Bates Invitational),” said head coach Al Fereshetian. “It was nice to see Steve back where he should be.”
The Bobcats next compete at Open New Englands at Franklin Park in Boston on Oct. 7.
