Golf team places second at Colby Classic

OAKLAND, Maine — Bates College finished second out of four teams Sunday at the Colby Classic, held at the Waterville Country Club. With a combined score of 231, the Bobcats finished ahead of the host Mules (237) and Maine Maritime Academy (249), and five strokes behind winner Thomas College (226).

Players competed in pairs, with the scoring format switching from best ball on holes 1-6 to alternate scoring on holes 7-12 and scramble on holes 13-18.

The Bates pair of first-year Kurt Schuler (Jackson, N.H.) and sophomore Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) led the Bobcats with a modified score of 76. Junior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) and sophomore Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine) scored 77, and seniors Chris Foster (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Nick Tierney (Greenwich, Conn.) teamed up for a 78.

 Bates is slated to next play at the St. Joseph’s College Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
