Bobcats’ Gregg named NESCAC Football Rookie of the Week
Matt Gregg ’10
HADLEY, Mass. — Bates first-year wide receiver Matt Gregg has been named the NESCAC Football Rookie of the Week for his second straight stellar performance Saturday against Williams College.
Gregg (Milton, Mass.) had five catches for 128 yards on Saturday against the conference heavyweight Ephs to surpass last week’s total of 99 yards, which was the previous top day for a rookie receiver in head coach Mark Harriman’s nine-year tenure at Bates. Gregg’s 51-yard connection with Brandon Colon in the second quarter took the Bobcats to the Ephs’ 1-yard line to set up a touchdown and a 7-3 halftime lead. Williams exploded for 24 points in the third quarter for a 27-7 win.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Gregg now ranks third in the conference in receiving yards per game (79.7), is tied for seventh in receptions per game (4.33), and is ninth in all-purpose yards. He is the only freshman on any of those lists.
