GORHAM, Maine — Becky Macdonald’s goal in the early second half gave the Bates women’s soccer team the scoring needed to defeat the University of Southern Maine 1-0 Wednesday in a non-league contest.
Macdonald, a senior defender from Danvers, Mass., took a through pass from sophomore midfielder Julie Brown (Lynnfield, Mass.) and shot past Huskies goalie Meghan Ibar from 12 yards away in the 50th minute of the game, sending the Bobcats (8-3 overall, 3-3 NESCAC) to their third win in a row.
The Huskies, who were outshot by a 25-2 margin in the game, dropped to 4-8.
Sophomore goalie Mia Lidofsky (Providence, R.I.) made one save in earning the shutout for Bates, which will host Wesleyan in a NESCAC contest Saturday at 11 a.m.
