Bates women’s XC places second at State of Maine Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates College women’s cross country team finished second overall Saturday at the Maine Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women State Championship, the Bobcats’ best result since also finishing second in 2003.
Bates finished with 53 points, behind nationally ranked Colby (21) and ahead of host Bowdoin (59), New England (136), Southern Maine (162), UMaine-Farmington (190), St. Joseph’s (199), UMaine-Presque Isle (214) and Maine Maritime Academy (272).
Bates senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) finished third overall at the 5K course at Pickard Field, in 18:28, earning All-State honors.
Next for Bates was junior Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.), who was eighth in 19:18; first-year Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario), who was 13th in 19:40; senior Emily Williams (Harvard, Mass.), who was 14th in 19:42; senior Jen Caban (Bedford, Mass.), who was 15th in 19:45; junior Molly Balentine (Hampden, Maine), who was 17th in 19:47; and first-year Alison Leonard (North Granby, Conn.), who was 26th in 20:09.
