First-place Monsulick leads Bates men to second at state championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bates College senior Steve Monsulick (Kents Hill, Maine) claimed first place overall as the Bates men’s cross country team came in second out of 10 teams at the State of Maine Championships Saturday at Bowdoin’s 8K Pickard Field course.
Monsulick covered the course in 25:33.08 for his second individual victory of the season, following his win at the Tufts Jumbo Cross Country Invitational.
The Bowdoin College men’s cross-country team placed four out of the top eight racers to win the crown. The Polar Bears totaled 33 team points, out-pacing Bates (56). The Bobcats came in ahead of Colby (59), Southern Maine (78), St. Joseph’s (184), UMaine-Presque Isle (187), UMaine-Farmington (200), Maine Maritime (233), New England (245) and Unity (300).
Following Monsulick to round out Bates’ top seven runners were junior Matt Dunlap (Farmington, Maine), who was 10th overall out of 118 competitors in 26:18.06; first-year Dylan McGuffin (Northfield, N.H.), who was 12th in 26:26.17; first-year Conor Welch (Newburyport, Mass.), who was 15th in 26:34.22; junior Harrison Little (Hanover, N.H.), who was 18th in 26:49.84; first-year Douglas Brecher (Waban, Mass.), who was 19th in 26:53.72; and sophomore C.J. Murray (North Andover, Mass.), who was 26th in 27:18.42.
Bates is at the NESCAC Championships on Oct. 28, hosted by Connecticut College.
