Bates women run seventh at NESCAC Cross Country Championship
WATERFORD, Conn. — Bates College finished seventh out of 11 teams at the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, two places ahead of last year’s performance.
Competing in powerful winds and flooded pathways at Connecticut College’s 6-kilometer course at Harkness State Park, Bates accumulated 209 points, ahead of Wesleyan (219), Bowdoin (228), Hamilton (299) and Trinity (320).
Senior co-captain Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) led Bates with a 23rd-place finish of 24:26. Junior Molly Balentine (Hampden, Maine) had a strong race as the Bobcats’ second finisher, with a 34th-place time of 24:51.
First-years Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) and Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) were 44th and 51st for Bates in 25:04 and 25:21, respectively. Senior Emily Williams (Harvard, Mass.) came in 57th in 25:34, followed by senior Jen Caban (Bedford, Mass.) in 61st at 25:59 and junior Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.), rounding out Bates’ top seven in 66th (26:43).
Bates competes at the ECAC Championships next Saturday at Williams College.
