Women’s soccer game canceled; Bates to play at Tufts in NESCACs
LEWISTON, Maine — Unplayable field conditions and tomorrow’s start of the NESCAC Championship prompted the cancellation of Saturday’s scheduled NESCAC women’s soccer game between Bates and Colby.
Bates finishes the regular season at 9-4 overall, and 4-4 in conference play. The Bobcats tied with Bowdoin (4-4-1) in conference winning percentage, but loses out on the tiebreaker between the teams due to Bowdoin’s win over Bates earlier this season.
Thus the Bobcats drew the seventh seed in the NESCAC Championship and will play at No. 2 seed Tufts University (9-3-2, 6-1-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the opening round. The game will be a rematch of last season’s NESCAC Championship game, which Bates won 2-1 in second overtime. Tufts defeated Bates a week later in the second round of the NCAA Championship, and also beat the Bobcats this regular season by a 1-0 score.
Colby finishes the regular season at 8-2-3 overall and 3-2-3 in NESCAC play. The White Mules earned the fifth seed and will play at Williams tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the first round of the NESCAC Championship.
