Bates swimming and diving teams fall short at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bates College swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet at NESCAC rival Trinity College on Saturday, and were both edged by the Bantams, with the Bates men on the short end of a 154-124 score and the women losing 159-126.
Sophomore Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events for Bates, and finished second in the 200 individual medley. Berry swam the 100 backstroke in 56.65 seconds, nearly six seconds ahead of second-place Stephen Kates of Trinity, and finished the 200 in 2:06.45, nearly 12 seconds ahead of Kates.
Junior co-captain Dan Perry (Exeter, N.H.) was the victor in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events for the Bobcats, with 222.97 and 215.33 points, respectively.
Also winning for the Bates men was first-year Taylor Sosnowski (Clifton Park, N.Y.) in the 100 freestyle, edging Trinity’s Brooks Gerli 51.38 to 51.44 seconds, and first-year Jake MacNaughton (Scarsdale, N.Y.) in the 500 freestyle, edging Trinity senior Jeff Yoshida by 0.13 seconds at 5:20.82.

The Bates women benefited from first-place performances in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events from sophomore Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine). Lamding scored 237.07 points in the 1-meter and 222.59 in the 3-meter.
First-year Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) was a winner in both the 100 and 200 backstroke for the second straight meet for Bates. Drake swam the 100 in 1:03.52, over three seconds ahead of Bantams first-year Niki Albino, and finished the 200 in 2:17.92, over 12 seconds ahed of Trinity sophomore Katie Berteletti.
Sophomore Alexis Boyatsis (Dover, N.H.) finished first in the 200 butterfly, in 2:23.69.
The Bates swimming and diving teams will host Bowdoin College in a dual meet on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m.
