Sharpshooting Bobcats defeat St. Joseph’s, 89-80

STANDISH, Maine — Junior Pat Halloran (Plymouth, N.H.) scored a career-high 24 points, shooting 6-for-8 from behind the three-point arc, as the Bates College men’s basketball team defeated host St. Joseph’s College of Maine 89-80 on Tuesday night.
Bates (12-2), ranked 21st in Division III, shot a season-best 61.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Monks (9-5) 33-28 while holding them to 46.9 percent shooting from the floor.
The game was tied for the 10th time of the game at 69 with 6:23 to play, when junior Bryan Wholey (Marshfield, Mass.) hit a three-pointer on an assist by senior Zak Ray (Bangor, Maine). Wholey scored five more of his 18 points as the Bobcats pulled away with a game-ending 20-11 run.
Chad Pulkkinen scored a game-high 27 points for St. Joseph’s, while Elbie Murphy added 19. The Monks limited their turnovers to eight.
Ray scored 14 points and added seven assists and a season-high nine rebounds. Senior Rob Stockwell (Temple, N.H.) added 12 points, while first-year Jimmy O’Keefe (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Sam Taylor (Redwood City, Calif.) each shot 4-for-4 from the floor and scored nine and eight points, respectively.
The Bobcats will host Husson College Thursday night at 7.
