MEDFORD, Mass. — The Bates College women’s track and field team finished third out of 16 teams Saturday at the Tufts Indoor Invitational #2. The Bobcats’ 94 points put them behind only the host Jumbos (142) and Amherst (103), and ahead of Southern Maine (75.5) and St. Francis (40) to round out the top five.
Event winners for Bates included senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) in the 1000-meter run (3:03.81) and the women’s distance medley relay team of first-year Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.), sophomore Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), senior Jen Caban (Bedford, Mass.) and Moore, which finished in 12:33.19 to edge out Amherst (12:34.11). It was the second fastest DMR run in Bates history. Moore’s 1000 was the fourth-fastest in Bates history, and qualified her for the New England Division III, ECAC and Open New England championships.
Junior Cassandra Kirkland (Greene, Maine) placed second in the weight throw (45-1.75), while first-year Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) came in third in the shot put (37-6).
Alexander earned second place in the 500, at 1:20.87, qualifying for the New England Division III and ECAC championship meets. Alexander also qualified for New Englands in the 55 hurdles, where she was fourth in 9.48 seconds.
