Women’s squash team beats Stanford at home, 7-2

LEWISTON, Maine — The No. 10 nationally ranked Bates women’s squash team defeated Stanford University 7-2 on Sunday at the Bates Squash Center, completing a 4-0 weekend while co-hosting the Maine Invitational.

The Bobcats raised their record to 12-4, with their only losses on the season coming at the hands of Dartmouth, Yale, Cornell and Trinity.

Senior co-captain and No. 1 player Kelsey Engman (Haverford, Pa.) showed terrific determination in winning three out of four matches over the weekend, with her only loss a 3-9, 9-2, 5-9, 5-9 thriller on stadium court to Stanford’s highly ranked Katie Brewster.  Bates first-year players Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.) and Hannah Laverty (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went a combined 7-1 in the Nos. 2 and 3 positions for Bates over the weekend; and the Bobcats swept their matches at spots 4 through 10 with wins in every match this weekend by Charlotte Gerrish ’08 (Rye, N.Y.), Schuyler Haynes ’07 (Bacova, Va.), Sarah Blomstedt ’09 (Gill, Mass.), Caroline Lemoine ’08 (Natick, Mass.), Jenny Imrich ’08 (Cambridge, Mass.), Margot Webel ’09 (Locust Valley, N.Y.), and Sophie Runquist ’09 (Kent, Conn.).
