| Sylvan Ellefson ’09 Ellefson finished the Men’s 10K Free Technique race in 24:07.2, more than seven seconds ahead of third-place Benjamin True of Dartmouth and behind only Dartmouth’s Michael Sinnott, leading the Bates men to fourth place as a team in the event. Ellefson finished the Classic in 30:34.0, one second behind Benjamin Koons of Dartmouth for sixth place. |
Val Beckwith ’09 Bates sophomore forwardVal Beckwith(Woburn, Mass.) led the Bobcats in a 2-0 weekend with 21 points in both games against Wesleyan and Conn. College. For the week she averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 13-25 (.520) from the field and 15-17 (.882) at the line.It was Beckwith’s old-fashioned three-point play in the Wesleyan game which gave Bates the lead for good with 3:29 to play, capping a second-half rally from a 10-point deficit behind the Cardinals.
Beckwith currently ranks third in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in scoring, at 17.1 points per game. She is also 15th in the conference in rebounding (6.2 rpg), fifth in field goal percentage (.493) and fourth in free throw percentage (.798). |
