Perry takes eighth place in 3-meter diving at NESCACs

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Bates junior diver Dan Perry placed eighth in the 3-meter diving Sunday at the NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Perry (Exeter, N.H.) scored 401.05 points in the preliminaries, the sixth-best score in that round, to make the final, where he scored 378.05 points.

Also on Sunday, on the heels of top-10 finishes in both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke races, sophomore Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) took 12th place in Sunday’s 200-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:59.01 in the consolation final.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay on Sunday, Bates notched a respectable eighth-place finish, with senior Charles Swanson (Woodbridge, Conn.), Berry, first-year Jake MacNaughton (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and and first-year Taylor Sosnowski (Clifton Park, N.Y.) registering a time of 7:23.81.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Bates came in 10th, with Berry, sophomore Bill Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.), sophomore Nate Cooper (Chestertown, Md.) and Sosnowski notching a time of 3:18.50. Bates also finished 10th in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Swanson, MacNaughton, junior Pat Flaherty (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore John Harvey (South Portland, Maine) combining for a 3:29.51 time.

Bates finished 11th overall at the meet.

Berry was second in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday, 10th overall, in a finals time of 54.70 seconds. On Friday, Berry placed 10th in the 50 back, in 25.66 seconds.

Perry finished in seventh place in the 1-meter diving for the second straight year on Friday, with 375.45 points in the finals after scoring 399.05 points in preliminaries.

Also on Friday, Bates’ ‘A’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cooper, Walsh, MacNaughton and Sosnowski placed ninth.
