Wanless ’04 takes second in shot put at U.S. Championships

BOSTON — Bates College graduate Liz Wanless ’04 took second place in the shot put Saturday at the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Representing the New York Athletic Club, Wanless recorded a top shot put of 58 feet and 4.75 inches, finishing second only to teammate Jillian Camarena (60-06.75). Taking third place was Robyn Jarocki at 55-05.50. Jarocki, formerly of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, was the top rival of Bates grad Keelin Godsey ’06 in most throwing events at indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships.

Wanless, who won two NCAA Division III titles in the shot put while at Bates, placed 12th on Sunday in the weight throw, with a top throw of 61 feet and 7 inches.
