MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Bates College set another school record in the women’s distance medley relay Friday night at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University.
Bates took first place in the event with a time of 12:05.21, a mark the Bobcats hope will qualify them to compete at the NCAA Championships. Running for Bates were first-year Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.), sophomore Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), senior Jen Caban (Bedford, Mass.) and senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.). Their time took 0.72 seconds off the school mark they set at the Valentine’s Day Classic on Feb. 9.
Julie Shelkey ’07
Later Friday night, Bates senior Julie Shelkey (Conway, Mass.) tied for fifth place in the pole vault, with a career-high vault of 10 feet and 6.75 inches.
With 13 points at the meet, Bates finished in a tie for 23rd place out of 55 scoring teams with SUNY Fredonia.
