TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Bates College junior Noah Gauthier claimed eighth place in the 35-pound weight throw Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, joining his brother Dustin Gauthier ’05 to become Bates’ first All-America brother tandem.
Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) came in seventh in the preliminary round to qualify for finals with a top throw of 57 feet and 3 inches, and the throw held up for eighth place through the finals.
Gauthier’s parents were able to witness the event, which was held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and they had Noah on the phone with Dustin “about 30 seconds after it was over,” said Bates head coach Al Fereshetian.
“Noah did a really nice job, and I think he’s pretty relieved now,” said Fereshetian. “He had three objectives: to make the finals, to finish in the top eight and to see what happens from there. He certainly met the first two goals.”
