Men’s lacrosse team wins at Wheaton, 13-7

NORTON, Mass. — The Bates College men’s lacrosse team built a 13-2 lead en route to a 13-7 defeat of Wheaton (Mass.) College on Saturday in both teams’ first game this season.
Bates senior co-captain Peter Boston (Acton, Mass.) made 13 saves and allowed only four goals in 54 minutes and 54 seconds of action to lead the Bobcats, while fellow senior Amadi Cisse (Hanover, N.H.) led the team with three goals. Juniors Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) and Justin Simon (Canaan, N.H.) scored two goals apiece, and Craig Blake (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) , added in two assists.
The Bobcats (1-0) took 33 shots to the Lyons’ 18.
Bates took a 4-0 lead after one quarter, as Simon scored the team’s first goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Nathan Kellogg (Natick, Mass.), followed by unassisted goals by sophomore John Adams (Bloomfield, Conn.), junior Mike Medeiros (Concord, Mass.) and Morin.
Wheaton made it 4-1 on the first of Richie Rasamny’s team-high two goals, but the Bobcats reeled off four straight goals to put the Lyons in an 8-1 hole. The teams traded scores before halftime for a 9-2 Bates edge at the break.
Bates padded its lead to 13-2, before Wheaton scored an own goal halfway through the fourth quarter, beginning a 5-0 Lyons run to finish the game. Bates junior Will Paddock (Denver, Colo.) came on in relief of Boston following Wheaton’s fourth goal and registered no saves.
Also scoring for Bates were senior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) with one goal and one assist, first-year David Barrett (Chatham, N.J.) with one goal and Kellogg with a goal and an assist.
Bates will host Trinity College in its first NESCAC game next Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m.
