Men’s lacrosse team cruises past Southern Maine, 23-4
LEWISTON, Maine — In the first varsity men’s lacrosse game ever played between Bates College and the University of Southern Maine, Bates came out on top 23-4 Monday evening at Campus Avenue Field.
Bates first-year Nick Woods (Greenwich, Conn.) scored the first nine points of his collegiate career, tallying six goals and three assists to lead the Bates attack.
The Huskies (0-2) scored the game’s first goal, an unassisted tally by junior Rob Dorr (Evanston, Ill.) just 1:03 into the contest, but Bates scored the game’s next 14 goals. The Bobcats (3-1) outshot the Huskies 36-15.
Senior Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine) scored two goals for Southern Maine and sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine) added another score. Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) made 12 saves.
Also scoring multiple points for Bates were first-year Nick Sampson (Yarmouth, Maine) with three goals and one assist; senior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) with three goals; first-year Tyler Moore (North Andover, Mass.) with two goals and two assists; first-year David Barrett (Chatham, N.J.) with two goals and one assist; senior John Kinnane (Little Compton, R.I.) with two goals; first-year P.J. Arroyo (Charlestown, Mass.) with two goals; junior Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) with one goal and one assist; sophomore Sam Geller (Berkeley, Calif.) with two assists; junior Craig Blake (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) with two assists; and sophomore Sean O’Brien (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) with one goal and one assist.
Bates will host Williams this Saturday at 2 p.m. in a NESCAC matchup. USM plays at Mitchell on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
