Bates’ Murray wins 5,000 meters at Tufts’ Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. — A contingent from the Bates College men’s track and field team opened the team’s outdoor season Saturday at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic, with a few notable performances marking the day.
Sophomore C.J. Murray (North Andover, Mass.) won the 5,000-meter race for Bates, timing in at 15:40.69, over 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Albert Crooker of Boston University.
Junior Emmanuel Drabo (Ougadougou, Burkina Faso) had an outstanding triple jump of 45 feet, 9 1/4 inches, good for third place.
First-year thrower Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) had an outstanding day with top-10 finishes in the discus throw, shot put and hammer throw. McNeil was fifth out of 44 competitors in the discus at 140 feet and 8 inches, eighth in the shot put at 45-05.25 and eighth in the hammer at 143-08.
Bates competes at the Colby Dual Coed Meet on April 7.
