Women’s track has strong showing at Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. — The outdoor track and field season kicked off for the Bates College women’s team Saturday at Tufts University’s Snowflake Classic, where a contingent of young team members had impressive performances.
Sophomore Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.), for one, had a strong day, triple-jumping to fifth place at 35 feet, 3 3/4 inches and long jumping 15-08.25 for 24th place.
Bates also put in a strong showing in the 1,500-meter race, where four Bobcats came in the top 24: first-year Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) in 11th place at 5:05.67, junior Amy Rosania (Rye Beach, N.H.) in 14th at 5:07.27, sophomore Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.) in 17th at 5:12.13 and first-year Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) in 24th at 5:25.51.
An additional standout Bobcat was first-year Lisa Hartung (Farmington, Maine), who raced to fifth place in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.46.
Next up for Bates is the Colby Coed Dual Meet April 7.
