Ben Stein ’09 Bates sophomore Ben Stein(Pelham, N.Y.) was an integral part of the Bobcats’ men’s tennis team’s first head-to-head victory over Bowdoin since 1999, a 5-4 decision on April 4 inside Merrill Indoor Gymnasium.Stein teamed up with first-year Max Berger(Concord, N.H.) at No. 1 doubles to defeat the Polar Bear duo of Jamie Neely and Garrett Gates 8-5, then proceeded to defeat Alex Caughron at No. 2 singles by a 6-4, 6-0 score.
Stein has been arguably the team’s most valuable player so far this year. Through seven dual matches for the Bobcats (4-3), currently ranked sixth in the Northeast, he is 7-0 in singles play, mostly at the No. 2 position, and 5-2 at No. 1 doubles. |
