Bates crews fare well at Williams regatta

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Bates College rowing crews traveled to Lake Onota Saturday for a regatta featuring host Williams College, Marist, Coast Guard, Tufts and Ithaca, with several impressive results for the Bobcats.

The Bates women’s Varsity 8, ranked No. 5 in Division III in the latest U.S. Rowing rankings, placed fourth in a tight race, covering the 2,000-meter course in 7:11.3, right behind Williams (7:00.5), Marist (7:08.3) and Ithaca (7:10.5), and ahead of Coast Guard (7:19.8). Bates was second out of five boats in the women’s second Varsity 8 race, just .1 seconds behind Williams (7:20.6) and ahead of Ithaca, Coast Guard and Marist.

On the men’s side, Bates came out ahead of Tufts in the Varsity 8 Petite Final, 6:21.7 to 6:31.6, and in the Second Varsity 8 Petite Final as well, 6:38.6 to 7:01.9.
