Hogan, Finan lead Bates to baseball win at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Junior 2B Denis Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) belted a solo home run among his two hits and scored twice to lead Bates College to an 11-3 win over Colby College in non-conference baseball Wednesday at Coombs Field. Bates (6-19) scored five times in the third inning and added three more runs in the fourth to pull away.
Senior starting pitcher Griffin Finan (Bethesda, Md.) worked eight innings to earn his third victory of the season for Bates. He had two strikeouts and two walks while allowing 11 hits. Finan raised his record to 3-3. Sophomore Chuck Murphy-Romboletti (Holyoke, Mass.) threw a shutout inning of mopup relief.
Junior Brian Mahoney (Sudbury, Mass.) went 3-for-5 for the Bobcats, while junior Brian Buckley (Andover, Mass.), junior Erik Hood (Berlin, N.H.) and first-year Josh Linscott (Portland, Maine) all had two hits for the Bobcats, with Linscott driving in three runs. Buckley extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Senior second baseman Tom Salemy (Odessa, Fla.) smacked his fifth homer of the season among his three hits and reached base five times for Colby (7-21) in his final home game at Coombs Field. Brian Liberty (Hollis, N.H.) and Craig Cooper (Trumbull, Conn.) both had two hits for the Mules.
Hogan’s homer, the first of his college career, made him the sixth Bobcat to hit one out this year.
The Bobcats play a doubleheader at Middlebury on Sunday.
