Bates junior Noah Gauthierput on the most dazzling performance by any thrower at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend at Springfield College.Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) won the hammer throw on Friday, notching a personal-record heave of 190 feet on his final throw, 14 1/2 feet better than runner-up Matt Zagura of Eastern Connecticut State.
He followed that up on Saturday by placing fourth in the discus at 144-10, and second in the shot put at 50-10.25. Gauthier scored a whopping 23 of Bates’ 53 team points at the meet, leading the Bobcats to their seventh consecutive top-six finish at New Englands.

Bates sophomore Izzy Alexander proved to be the best Division III heptathlete in New England last weekend at outdoor New Englands at Springfield College.After standing in third place and 20 points behind the leader heading into the final event, the 800 meters, on Saturday,Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) scored 3,932 points to beat out Chrissy Henko of Bridgewater State (3,850) and Morgan Jamiel of Wheaton (3,756). She stood in third place leading up to the final event, the 800 meters.
Alexander shaved .02 seconds off of the Bates 100-meter hurdles record previously held by Kathleen Nugent ’06, topping the field in 15.79 seconds in Friday’s segment of the heptathlon.
Alexander also teamed with senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.), first-year Katie Bash(Wallingford, Pa.) and senior Jen Caban(Bedford, Mass.) on Saturday to run the second-fastest 4×800-meter relay in Bates history, at 9:25.9, finishing in second place for eight points.
