HADLEY, Mass. — Bates College softball players Katie Franklin and Stacia Saniuk were both named to the all-conference team by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, announced on Thursday.
It is the third straight year that Franklin, a senior outfielder from New Preston, Conn., has been voted all-conference. Franklin made the First Team in her sophomore and junior years.
It is the second time in as many years that Saniuk, a sophomore catcher from Sharon, Mass., has made Second Team All-NESCAC. She was also named NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2006.
Franklin, a team co-captain, led all Bates regulars with a career-high .406 batting average, a .474 on-base percentage and a .625 slugging percentage. She shared the team lead in home runs with Saniuk with three, and she drove in 16 runs while starting in all 24 of the Bobcats’ games. An excellent center fielder, Franklin committed only two errors, and four in her entire career. She owns Bates’ single-season records in extra-base hits (19) and doubles (14).
Saniuk hit .329 with three home runs and a team-high 19 RBIs while starting all 24 games. She owns Bates’ single-season records in home runs (9) and total bases (73).
