HANOVER, N.H. — Bates senior Kathryn Moore shredded her own Bates record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the all-division Open New England Track and Field Championships at Dartmouth, winning the event in a blistering 10:33.20.

The time beats the previous mark of 10:49.46 she ran at nationals last year for eighth place by a whopping 16.26 seconds. Moore (Pelham, N.H.) met the automatic qualifying standard to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships at Wisconsin-Oshkosh in two weeks.

The 10 points Moore earned with her performance led Bates to a tie with Colby for 18th place at the meet with 15 points, out of 34 scoring teams.

Also scoring points for the Bobcats were sophomore Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), who finished fifth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday at 1:04.00, and senior Julie Shelkey (Conway, Mass.), who placed eighth in the pole vault at 10-06.00.

Bates senior Jen Caban (Bedford, Mass.) broke the Bates record in the outdoor 800 meters, finishing ninth with a time of 2:14.28, eclipsing Sarah Dominick’s 1992 mark by .21 seconds. Caban’s time met the provisional qualification for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Also competing for Bates were senior Laura Golitko (Hopkinton, Mass.), who placed 11th in the pole vault (10-06.00), sophomore Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.), who placed 13th in the triple jump at 34-10.25, first-year Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine), who placed 21st in the shot put (38-04.75). Bates’ 4×400 relay team of Shelkey, first-year Lisa Hartung (Farmington, Maine), sophomore Tara Higgins (Jeffersonville, Vt.) and junior Amy Rosania (Rye Beach, N.H.) placed 16th in 4:11.13.
