OSHKOSH, Wis. — Bates sophomore Izzy Alexander qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles Thursday at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, finishing ninth overall to vault eight spots above her 17th seeding.
Despite rainy and very windy conditions at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Keller Field, Alexander clocked in a time of 1:02.51, breaking her own Bates record in the event for the third time this season by 0.63 seconds. Six days ago at the ECAC Division III Championships, Alexander shaved 0.80 seconds off of her previously set Bates mark.
Alexander earned the ninth and final spot for Saturday’s final. The top eight finishers will earn All-America honors.
Next up for the Bates women’s team is senior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.), who will run the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday at 7:20 p.m. CDT.
