Volleyball opens season at Plymouth State tourney

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — The Bates College volleyball team played the inaugural intercollegiate athletic contest of the 2007-08 academic year, facing Mount Ida College in the first round of the Days Inn of Campton Volleyball Tournament at Plymouth State University. Mount Ida prevailed 3-1 in the match, on game scores of 25-30, 30-22, 30-15, 30-17.
Senior Brittany Clement (Gobles, Mich.) made 24 assists as Bates’ primary setter, while senior Jenn Linton (West Redding, Conn.) led the team in kills with 10. Sophomore Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) came up with seven kills and 12 digs for the Bobcats, while sophomore Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) added eight kills and first-year Phoebe Reed (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched seven kills and two service aces.
The Mustangs, who were 21-10 last season, also defeated Lasell 3-0 earlier in the day.
Bates faces Lasell on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Foley Gymnasium. Should they win, the Bobcats will advance to play Plymouth State in the semifinals at 11 a.m.
