VASSALBORO, Maine — The Bates College golf team finished fourth out of 11 teams as the Bobcats concluded their fine weekend at the State of Maine Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, co-hosted by Thomas and Husson colleges at Natanis Golf Club. Bates scored a 339 in wet conditions for a two-day score of 665, behind only Husson (627), St. Joseph’s (645) and Bowdoin (645).
“It’s the best Bates has done in this tournament in a very, very, very long time. It was a pretty good weekend for us,” said head coach Peter Lasagna.
Bates sophomore Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) shot a 78 for the second straight day. His two-day score of 156 ranked fourth among all players, earning him All-State honors. First-year Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) shot an 82 for a two-day score of 161, just one stroke out of the top 10 and All-State laurels. Senior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) shot an 86 and junior Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) followed with a 93.
