Pelz’s goal lifts men’s soccer into 1-1 tie at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior midfielder Duane Pelz’s penalty kick goal in the final minute of regulation tied the game, and Bates College and Connecticut College went on to a 1-1 draw in NESCAC men’s soccer action at New London Saturday afternoon.
Trevor Prophet (Nashua, N.H.) tallied his second score of the season in the 34th minute of play.
Pelz (Boulder, Colo.) netted the equalizer with just 36 seconds remaining in regulation, scoring on a penalty kick.
The Camels (1-3-1, 0-2-1) had an opportunity to win the game in the second overtime. Greg Genco (Hauppauge, N.Y.) served up a corner to Alex Samma (Ougadougou, Burkina Faso), but his header went just wide of the net.
Bates senior Robert Wesley-Munro (Walpole, Mass.) had one save in the first half. Senior Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) had five stops in relief duty. Junior Ted Lane (Portland, Ore.) finished with four stops for the Camels.
The Bobcats (1-2-1 overall, 0-2-1 NESCAC) travel back home to play host to NESCAC opponent Trinity College on Sunday for an 11 a.m. start.
