Golf in seventh place on first day of NESCAC qualifier

CLINTON, N.Y. — Sophomore Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) shot a 77 to lead the Bates College golf team to seventh place out of 10 teams on the first day of the 2007 NESCAC Championships Qualifier on Saturday at Skenandoa Club.

Schuler’s 77 tied for the 13th best score overall. His score combines with junior teammate Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine), who shot an 80, senior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.), who carded an 81, and first-year Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.), who shot an 83, for a team score of 321, just a stroke behind Amherst for sixth place. Junior Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) also competed for Bates, shooting an 85.

The top four teams from the qualifier will earn the right to compete for the NESCAC Golf Championship during the last weekend in April at the top finisher from this weekend’s action.
