Divers stand out in Bates’ swimming opener at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Bates divers Annaliese Rudis and Tasha Rosener went 1-2 in both of their events to lead the Bobcats’ women’s swimming and diving team in a season-opening dual meet Saturday at NESCAC rival Wesleyan University. Wesleyan defeated Bates 150-129 on the women’s side and the host Cardinals defeated the Bates men 163-76.
Rudis (North Andover, Mass.), a sophomore, scored 217.50 points in the 1-meter diving event to notch nine points for Bates, while Rosener, a senior, scored 200.18 for another four points. Rosener (Dillon, Colo.) won the 3-meter event with 216.00 points, while Rudis came in second with 205.35 points.
Junior Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) highlighted the Bates men’s efforts with a resounding victory in the 200-yard backstroke. Berry finished in 2:07.14, 8.37 seconds ahead of the runner-up. He was edged in the 100-yard back by Wesleyan’s Dana Drost, 56.11 seconds to 56.69.
Senior Dan Perry (Exeter, N.H.) finished second in the 1-meter diving with 209.18 points and first at 3 meters, with 210.45 points.
