Bobcats move to consolation round at Norwich tourney

NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Jamie Wolff poured in 34 points to lead St. Lawrence University past the Bates women’s basketball team, 65-42, in the opening round of the Ed Hockenbury Classic Friday night at Norwich University.
Bates (1-2) will play the host Cadets (0-5) in the consolation game of the tournament, with a tipoff of 1 p.m. on Saturday at Andrews Hall. St. Lawrence will face The Apprentice School of Newport News, Va., in the tournament championship.
Junior Val Beckwith (Woburn, Mass.) led Bates with 13 points, the lone Bobcat in double figures. First-year Christine McCall (Lowell, Mass.) added six points.
The Saints (5-1) led the game wire to wire, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and cruising to a first-half edge of as many as 24 points. Wolff provided most of the offense, shooting 11-21 from the floor, including 6-13 on three-pointers, as well as going 6-7 at the foul line, making five steals and grabbing five rebounds. Lauren Sischo added eight points with seven assists and five rebounds, while Jenna Krzemien grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
