MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Bates College women’s squash team began the 2007-08 season in impressive fashion this weekend at Wesleyan University, recording 9-0 victories over George Washington University, St. Lawrence University and William Smith College.
The Bobcats (3-0) dropped only one game in their match against George Washington on Friday night, then defeated both St. Lawrence and William Smith on Saturday morning without losing a single game.
Playing at No. 1 singles for Bates was sophomore Hannah Laverty (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Rounding out the top eight spots in all three matches were senior co-captain Charlotte Gerrish (Rye, N.Y.) at No. 2, senior co-captain Jenny Imrich (Cambridge, Mass.) at No. 3, sophomore Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.) at No. 4, senior co-captain Caroline Lemoine (Natick, Mass.) at No. 5, junior Sarah Blomstedt (Gill, Mass.) at No. 6, first-year Stephanie Cabot (Dover, Mass.) at No. 7 and first-year Anna Hogeland (Williamstown, Mass.) at No. 8. Senior Rachel Harmeling (North Reading, Mass.) played the No. 9 spot against both George Washington and William Smith, while junior Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) played at No. 9 against St. Lawrence.
