Coffin named Maine Player of the Week

LEWISTON, Maine — A day after returning to the hardwood at Alumni Gym for the first time in nearly two years, Bates senior Meg Coffin won Player of the Week honors from the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Coffin (Westford, Mass.) averaged 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in the Bobcats’ 3-0 week. She shot a blistering 18-27 (67%) from the floor, including a 15-point and 11-rebound effort in Bates’ victory over William Paterson. In the championship game of the tournament against Wesleyan, Coffin had 12 points (6-9 from the floor), 8 rebounds and 3 assists. She was named to the Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic all-tournament team hosted by Springfield College. In the William Paterson game, Coffin scored her 1000th career point.
Coffin averaged 13.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 blocks and 2.0 steals while shooting a blistering 18-27 (.667) from the floor during Bates’ 3-0 week. Recently returned from a year’s layoff due to a knee injury, Coffin scored her 1,000th career point Thursday in a win against William Paterson University. She was named to the All-Tournament Team while helping to guide the Bobcats to the Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic at Springfield College. (Teammate Val Beckwith was named tournament MVP.)
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with a non-league game at the University of New England.
