Men’s squash scores 5-4 win over No. 8 Cornell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Bates College men’s squash team recorded its second defeat of a top-10 ranked team in a week on Friday night at Yale University, as the No. 12 Bobcats upended No. 8 Cornell University 5-4.

Bates (2-2) won despite the defeat of the often unbeatable Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) at the No. 1 position. Senior co-captain Sean Wilkinson (London, England) won in three sets at the No. 2 position. First-year Matt Marchisotto (New York, N.Y.) went 3-1 on the year with a win at No. 5, and Bates won at Nos. 7 through 9 to take the match, thanks to first-year Nick Echeverria’s (Washington, D.C.) five-set victory, junior Chip Russell’s (West Hartford, Conn.) four-set win at 8, and junior Deacon Chapin’s (Cambridge, Mass.) three-set win at No. 9.

Bates (2-2) is slated for a pair of matches at Yale tomorrow, against rival Navy at 4 p.m. and against the host Elis at a time still to be determined.
