Women’s squash team falls at No. 5 Trinity

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Bates College women’s squash team finished up a challenging road trip with a 9-0 loss at No. 5 nationally ranked Trinity College on Sunday.

This came after Saturday’s action, when Mount Holyoke and Bates tangled in a hard-fought women’s squash match at Yale University, with the No. 12 ranked Lyons edging the No. 11 Bobcats by a 5-4 score. And on Friday at Yale, Bates easily topped Middlebury 9-0 but was defeated by Cornell by the same score.

Bates received its points in the Mt. Holyoke match from sophomore Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.) at No. 5, junior Margot Webel (Locust Valley, N.Y.) at No. 7, first-year Stephanie Cabot (Dover, Mass.) at No. 8 and junior Sophie Runquist (Kent, Conn.) at No. 9.

Senior co-captain Caroline Lemoine (Newton, Mass.) came closest to beating her Cornell counterpart, as she fell to Annie Ritter in five games.

Each player in the Bates lineup defeated her Middlebury opponent in three games.

Bates (5-6) will host St. Lawrence on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., followed by home matches on Saturday against Brown (12 p.m.) and George Washington (3:30 p.m.).
