BOSTON — Bates throwers Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan and Cassandra Kirkland finished third and fourth, respectively, out of 22 competitors in the 20-pound weight throw Friday at the Boston University Terrier Classic.
Duncan (Topsham, Maine) had a top throw of 48’3.25″, trailing only Dartmouth’s pair of Jessica Long (50’9.5″) and Emily Daly (49-9.25) at the meet and moving her to sixth place on Bates’ all-time performance list in the event. Kirkland (Greene, Maine) came next with a top throw of 47’4.5″. The senior co-captain is already fourth on the performance list at 48’6″.
Also at the meet, junior co-captain Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) qualified for both the New England Division III Championships and the ECAC Division III Championships with her performance in the 800 meters. Her finish of 2:21.51 was good for 29th place out of 58 competitors at the meet.
Bates will host a men’s and women’s dual meet with Colby College today starting at noon in Merrill Indoor Gymnasium.
